What our checks mean (and don't)
Every badge on Motorfolk says what was checked and when. We never call a car "verified".
✓ Business details checked
A person matched the dealer to an active company at Companies House and checked they're authorised to act for it. It doesn't mean every car they sell is perfect.
✓ Identity and phone checked
The private seller passed an identity check and confirmed their mobile number before their advert went live. It says nothing about the car itself.
Availability confirmed today
The seller, or their stock system, told us the car was still for sale today. Unconfirmed cars are hidden from search after 72 hours (dealers) or 14 days (private sellers).
Usually replies within…
The typical time to a first reply, counted only in the seller's opening hours, over the last 90 days. Shown only after at least 10 enquiries, so it's fair.
Vehicle Passport
Facts with their source and date: what the seller declared, what a data supplier returned and what the MOT record shows. If sources disagree, we show both. It isn't a history check, a guarantee or proof of ownership.
What we don't do
- We don't inspect cars or guarantee their condition.
- We don't take payments or deposits between buyers and sellers.
- Paying Motorfolk never buys a badge.
